Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of X (formerly Twitter), expressed concerns about ChatGPT, labeling it as “too woke” and its capabilities as “concerning.” Responding to a user discussing a TED talk by Katherine Maher, CEO and president of National Public Radio (NPR), where she suggested that truth is subjective, Musk criticized such notions as “the granddaddy of all parasitic idea pathogens.”
On X, Musk warned about the potential dangers if such subjective views were ingrained in powerful AI systems like Google Gemini and OpenAI, ChatGPT, suggesting they could pose a threat to civilization. He has a history of cautioning against the negative impacts of AI and was part of a group of tech experts who called for a pause in AI development.
While Musk has been vocal about AI risks, he has also been involved in AI technology for years. He co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but later departed due to conflicts of interest, with differing accounts about the reasons for his departure.
Despite this, Musk introduced his own AI chatbot called GrokAI, which is available to X Premium and Premium+ users. Marketed as possessing a “sense of humor” and a rebellious streak, GrokAI is designed to provide witty responses and engage users in conversation.
Executives from xAI, an AI company owned by Musk, emphasized GrokAI’s humorous and rebellious nature, suggesting that those who lack a sense of humor should refrain from using it. GrokAI is modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and is intended to answer questions with wit while also suggesting questions to ask.
