OpenAI Enters Into Google Ecosystem With Drive Integration in ChatGPT

According to a report, OpenAI has begun introducing support for Google Drive integration to its AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. Several ChatGPT Enterprise users have reportedly confirmed that the chatbot now permits linking Google Drive to its interface.

In conversations, ChatGPT is now prompting users about the capability to connect apps to the platform. Within the file attachment menu, users have the option to select “Connect Apps,” leading to a subsequent page where they can link their Google Drive and OneDrive accounts. Presently, this feature is exclusively available to selected paid-tier Enterprise users.

Upon successfully linking their Google Drive to ChatGPT, users can access the “Add from Google Drive” option within the file attachment menu on the chat interface. Similar to uploading a file or document from a local folder, this new option opens a file picker directly linked to the user’s Google Drive.

While OpenAI has not made an official announcement regarding this feature, it appears to be gradually rolling out to select users, hinting at a broader rollout in the near future.

On another note, Google recently announced enhancements to its Gemini AI assistance within workspace apps, including Google Drive, during its annual developers conference, I/O. Although OpenAI’s integration of Google Drive and Microsoft’s OneDrive offers additional options to users, Google’s integration of Gemini extends further into its Workspace apps ecosystem.

With a new side-panel for Gemini, Google is facilitating easier accessibility through a sidebar, enabling seamless navigation within Workspace apps such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more.
